Pat Forrest
Artist, Artisan & Constant Creator
My name is Pat Forrest and I began my painting journey way back in 1989 when ‘tole painting’ was popular. I taught lessons for a while but then life, work and family took up most of my time. I retired from ‘work’ in 2021 and finally got back to my art full time. I live in rural Renfrew, where I never run out of subjects to paint or create, with our beautiful Ottawa Valley as my inspiration.
In 2018 I discovered fused glass. After taking lessons and using the instructors kiln, I decided to purchase my own kiln. I have created a lovely line of wild birds and treed landscapes. My glass art can be found at the ‘Gift Nook’ at my home studio, as well as some galleries around the Ottawa Valley. You can see a list of those galleries here (Where To Buy). I also love to paint using watercolour. I taught classes at the local recreation centre for 2 years but have slowed down to only teach occasionally.
My favourite subjects to paint are landscapes and old stone buildings. I paint either from a reference photo or by actually being onsite to paint live – otherwise known as ‘plein air’ painting. There is so much natural beauty in this area, a living an hour away from Algonquin Park is an added bonus.
